These freshwater snails occur in swift-flowing reaches of small to large rivers. They require clean, cold, highly-oxygenated water and stable, boulder-gravel substrates.
Limiting factors
Shortface lanx are restricted to the Lower Deschutes River and possibly the Columbia River. Dams on the Columbia River have severely reduced available habitat. Sedimentation and agricultural and industrial runoff that affects water quality further threaten this species.
Data gaps
Assess distribution. Describe life history requirements.
Conservation actions
Maintain or restore high water quality. This species is particularly sensitive to hydrological modifications from dams.
