Rough popcornflower occurs in shaded, seasonally-wet pools (vernal pools).
Limiting factors
Habitat loss due to conversion of wetlands to agricultural fields and urban development has adversely affected this species. Fire suppression, invasive plant infestations, and livestock grazing are additional threats.
