This area is conterminal with Sand Lake, and Salmon River – Cascade COAs. The area includes Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge, at 1,202 acres, is the largest refuge within the Oregon Coastal Refuge Complex. The refuge also includes Neskowin Marsh, Little Nestucca River Unit, Martella Tract and Two Rivers Peninsula. Neskowin Marsh Unit protects a large freshwater coastal wetland that includes bogs and other rare plant communities. The bay is important for migratory and wintering shorebirds and waterfowl and marine mammals. Historical nesting site for Western Snowy Plovers. Nestucca Bay Refuge provides important winter habitat for the formerly endangered Aleutian Cackling Goose Semidi Island population and serves as an important overwintering site for Dusky Canada geese.
